Two Hands, Four Hands

Materials Needed:

Construction paper or felt (any color to trace hands)

Color construction paper for background

White paper with the words typed out that say, "My Two Hands" at the top
and "When I am at school" at the bottom. One per student

Activity:

Have students trace their hands 2x and cut them out. Set aside.

On the first paper the students draw a chore or work that they do at school.

On the second paper the students draw a chore they do at home.

Glue the ends of the hands on the paper so that it hides the drawing that they completed.

Glue the first paper (school) on the front of color construction paper.

Glue the second paper (home) on the back of the construction paper.

Have the students share their paper with the class when completed. Discuss which jobs the student must do alone and which jobs could be done with more than one person to make it fun. Have the students think about a job they could do to surprise someone who usually has that job to do. For example: Your brother might have to take out the garbage. Maybe you could surprise him by taking out the garbage one time. Also discuss what is job that you might volunteer to help do with someone. For example: Your sister has to wash the car. You volunteer to help her out. BUT it also needs to be discussed that because the job is the sister's responsibility then you must do the job the way your sister would like to have it done in order to make a fun experience for everyone. In other words, it must be done with cooperation.

Have the students take the paper home to share with their family. The students should then do a job to help someone as discussed above and share that experience with the class the next time in circle time.
